Farm to Community
The multitude of complex inequities of our food system who’s reformation entails a difficult knot to untie from the choke hold of capitalism precludes farmers from getting responsibly grown, labor safe, quality food to those who need it most. Regenerative farmers’ margins are too thin to take on that whole guerilla nor should they be the sole actors in change. Innumerable nonprofits and changemakers step up to the plate to create sustainable, reformative, deep collaborations that support the farm to community relationship in pushing for the vision of a functional and fair food system. Here are a few of the folks and initiatives we make sure to divert time/resources/love to in support of that vision.
-
Farm to Pantry
We donate all unsold farmstand produce weekly as well as coordinate glean days for any crops in excess or unsellable (not because we don't want them to be!).
-
Grow-a-Row
Grow a Row is a solidarity collaboration between Celebrating Womxn's Leadership in Food and The Cultural Conservancy that seeks to build community between North Bay farmers and Native communities in the Bay Area by providing locally grown produce and supporting seed growing at TCC’s Heron Shadow. Yagi Sisters Farm is part of a group of local farmers dedicating a literal row/bed of produce to TCC that is harvested and donated weekly throughout the growing season.
-
Plants to the People
Plants to the People emerged as a farmer-to-farmer mutual aid project in response to the COVID-19 pandemic whereby rural growers mobilized to shared thousands of plant starts with urban growers to help rapidly increase food production. This partnership of plant sharing continues on to highlight the importance and power of regional, urban-rural networks and the resilience shared in times of crisis and need.
